Spending this past week in Moab, Utah on the Colorado river has been my favorite trip so far. I was super stoked when I learned we would be spending a week on the river. Being from Olympia, Washington and having lived on the southern coast of California I have always loved the water and found it to be one of my therapeutic sanctuaries. One of my biggest hesitations before coming out to Arizona was the dry climate and lack of water. Living in my addiction got me away from enjoying water activities. Growing up I spent a lot of time water in kayaks, boats, row boats, and paddle boards. I always knew that water would play a big role in my life but I completely lost sight of the importance. Having different kinds of rafts and a sober community provided me with the perfect opportunity to learn how to enjoy one of my favorite parts of the outdoors again. One of my favorite parts of the trip was using the paddle, when I was paddling standing up with the wind in my face and the water was splashing onto my face I felt this sense of freedom that I haven’t felt in a long time. I won’t be forgetting this trip for some time.
