Dear Back2Basics Families,

We hope you all had an amazing Christmas; we sure did. This week-long trip consisted of a bunch of super fun activities. Friday morning, December 20th, we packed up everything we would need for a basecamp, tents, gear and extra clothes for the trip. We made the 4 hour drive to the Molino Campground outside of Tucson, Arizona. Once we arrived at the campground, we made dinner, held a recovery meeting and called it a night.

The morning of the 21st, we woke up early, made breakfast and headed out to go paintballing. This was our favorite activity of the week. The day consisted of 4 hours of paintballing with multiple different game modes. We shared stories of our paintball heroics as we drove to our next campsite near Tanque Verde Falls. We shared laughter and our paintball wounds while eating burgers, and headed to bed.

Sunday morning we did a small hike to a dry waterfall. We had fun rock hopping and scrambling around the waterfall. Sunday afternoon we drove to our next campsite and spent the evening laughing around the campfire, eating, playing guitars and singing.

Monday and Tuesday were great. We did a 6 mile hike Monday named the Cochise Stronghold. Afterwards we hung out at camp, played cards and enjoyed time together as a group. Closing the day we made dinner, held a recovery meeting and went to bed. Tuesday some of the boys decided to go scramble (climb rocks not requiring technical equipment) while others packed up the vans in preparation for our next destination. Once the boys got back from the scramble, we all loaded up the vans and drove the hour to Tombstone, Arizona. Tombstone has lots of history, while there we watched a reenactment of how the town came to be. We all loved watching the show. After the show we drove to Bisbee, Arizona. While in Bisbee, we stayed in airstream trailers, throwbacks to the mid 1950’s.

Christmas morning we slept in a bit. Once awake we headed to the staff trailer to open gifts in a white elephant style. The rest of Christmas day was very relaxing. We went out to eat and just hung out at the trailer park watching movies and or taking naps.

Each night of the trip we held recovery meetings. Each day we focused on Daily Reflections. Topics for our Daily Reflections included, Acceptance, Success or Failures, Triggers, and Coping With Holiday. In other recovery meetings a couple of the boys shared their stories. Hearing each other’s stories and reflections brings us closer, supporting each of our growth, work and hope.

Thursday morning we made sure the vans were fully packed before starting the six hour drive back to Flagstaff. Once back in Flagstaff, we cleaned the vans, ate dinner, watched a movie and retired for the night. We all really enjoyed the trip despite being away from home.

With Love,
B2B Boys
