Dear Back2Basics Families,
This week’s adventure took us backpacking in the Tonto National Forest. Friday, after a nice workout, we packed up and headed to the Cave Creek Trail. The hike into our campsite was full of good laughter and conversation. The terrain was mostly flat but some rocky areas were slippery. After an hour and a half we reached the camp site in a valley of a canyon. The boys cooked dinner and sat around the fire talking and getting to know each other better. We ended the night with an AA meeting.
The next morning the boys set off to hike to a small peak. While hiking in a dried up river bed we found turtle shells. At the end of the hike, some of the guys did a little scramble to the peak. After spending time relaxing at the peak we were ready to head back to camp and cook dinner. On the way back to camp we stopped for a swim. The evening was full of good conversation and card games. Once again, our day ended with an AA meeting.
Sunday morning we packed up our gear, weighing about 40 pounds, and began an 8 mile backpack on Skunk Trail. We ran into some cows on the trail. The cows rushed to get out of our way while looking at us nervously. We stopped for lunch about half way through our hike. We were ecstatic to accomplish the hike in 3 hours, such a feat. After an exhausting day, we headed to a campground for the night, enjoyed music and each other’s company.
Monday morning we woke up to make the drive home. Once back in Flagstaff, we had a good workout, derigged the vans, and got ready for the week.
With Love,
B2B Boys
