Dear Families,

This week we went to the Grand Canyon in two separate groups.  Our team was going to be backpacking down the Grand view trail, so on Sunday morning we loaded up our packs into the van and set off for the south rim.  The five of us arrived at the trailhead before noon, strapped on our YakTracks and started our decent down the icy/snowy Grand view trail.  It was a steep three plus miles down to the horseshoe mesa.  The views on the way down and at our campsite were breathtaking.  The first night after we made dinner, we went for an evening hike/climb around the horseshoe to watch the sunset.  We had a lot of laughs and good times that evening.

The next morning, we woke early and got our day bags together for a hike further into the canyon to fill water containers in a stream.  When we got back to our campsite, we treated our water and then made lunch. Shortly after lunch we packed our day bags again and hiked to the Grand view caves!  We crawled and climbed through the beautiful and humid cave system to a big open area where we could have a group meditation and do sharing is caring.  Aaron played some music and we relaxed in the cave for a while and enjoyed each other’s company.  When we got back to the campsite, the sun was setting and we were hungry and tired, so we made dinner and talked for a while before getting in our tents.

It started raining that night and was still raining when we woke up.  Shortly after waking, we were all wet, but our spirits were high.  We knew it was the big hiking day and it was only going to rain harder, so we packed up all our gear and started making our way back up the Grand view trail.  It was a very difficult hike, especially with the rain and the constant elevation, but we all persevered and supported each other to the very top.  It was a great trip, with some of the most amazing views the Grand Canyon has to offer, good comradery with this smaller group, and a nice and challenging hike to top everything off.

Until next time,
The B2B Boys
