Heading out on the morning of the 16th, the B2B crew drove towards Phoenix to start our Cave Creek backpacking expedition. With a pleasurable two mile hike into our campsite for the next two evenings, we base camped near the river and relaxed, expecting a long day of treacherous hiking to follow. Monday morning we rose early and got on the trail expecting an 18-mile day, but were pleasantly surprised when two to three miles in we scrambled up a scree field towards the highest surrounding peak to share on our topic of the trip and enjoy the surrounding view. This was followed by traversing across two nearby hills towards our campsite.
This journey was all but easy for many, and proved a worthy adversary at its steep angle and cat-claw covered hillsides. Upon getting back to camp we refueled and as it got dark headed towards an abandoned farmhouse we saw on the way in, exploring its insides and the surrounding property as the rain unexpectedly began to fall. Overall, this trip threw some unexpected curve-balls towards us all but we took them in stride and made the best of our three day, two night excursion.
